{"id":177477,"date":"2026-01-06T04:00:55","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T17:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=177477"},"modified":"2026-01-06T04:00:55","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T17:00:55","slug":"shire-community-asset-committees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/armstrongcreektimes\/news\/shire-community-asset-committees\/","title":{"rendered":"Membership changes at shire&#8217;s Community Asset Committees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THERE has been some turnover among the ranks of the Surf Coast Shire\u2019s Community Asset Committees (CACs), and one CAC is downgrading to become a \u201cfriends of\u201d group.<\/p>\n<p>The shire\u2019s CACs are made up of volunteers who maintain and promote use of the shire\u2019s facilities, such as halls and recreation reserves.<\/p>\n<p>The officers\u2019 2024-2025 annual update on its CACs, presented to councillors at their December meeting, noted many CAC members have held a position on their respective committees for a long period of time.<\/p>\n<p>It further noted while volunteer numbers are reasonably strong in the Surf Coast Shire, attracting and retaining CAC members can be challenging for some committees.<\/p>\n<p>Councillors resolved to accept the resignation of seven CAC members, and acknowledged their contributions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Edith Barton &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/licence-granted-to-run-aireys-market-all-year\/\">Anderson Roadknight<\/a> CAC<\/li>\n<li>Kara Cheah &#8211; Anderson Roadknight CAC<\/li>\n<li>Lynette Clucas &#8211; Deans Marsh CAC<\/li>\n<li>James Morton &#8211; Deans Marsh CAC<\/li>\n<li>Don Baldwin \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/hub-for-all-headlines-stribling-reserve-unveiling\/\">Stribling Reserve<\/a> CAC<\/li>\n<li>Geoff Couper \u2013 Stribling Reserve CAC, and<\/li>\n<li>Steve Findlay \u2013 Connewarre CAC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two new CAC members were also appointed: Chris Armstrong to the Anderson Roadknight CAC; and Ian Hopkins to the Anderson Roadknight CAC.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/shire-may-buy-anglesea-bike-park-land-from-alcoa\/\">Anglesea Bike Park<\/a> was previously overseen by a CAC, but its members resolved earlier this year to formally dissolve the committee on June 30 and instead become a \u201cfriends of\u201d group, which typically requires less governance oversight and time to manage, with support from the Surf Coast Mountain Bike Group.<\/p>\n<p>The council endorsed this decision at its meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Cr Joel Grist said the shire would continue to support management and maintenance of the park under a memorandum of understanding with the friends group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnglesea Bike Park is an outstanding community asset, much loved by riders of all ages from Anglesea and far beyond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaintaining such a highly-rated facility demands a lot of work, and we commend volunteers for their dedication and commitment across many years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis transition in title and operations model recognises those demands, while ensuring that the community-led group will continue to advise the council on management of the park.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For more information on the shire\u2019s CACs and to become a member, head to<a href=\"http:\/\/surfcoast.vic.gov.au\/Community\/Get-involved\/Community-Asset-Committees\"> surfcoast.vic.gov.au\/Community\/Get-involved\/Community-Asset-Committees<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THERE has been some turnover among the ranks of the Surf Coast Shire\u2019s Community Asset Committees (CACs), and one CAC is downgrading to become a \u201cfriends of\u201d group.
