TWELVE roads in the Surf Coast Shire will have new speed limits by the end of next month.<\/p>\n
The changes will be implemented in line with the shire’s road safety strategy.<\/p>\n
The strategy was adopted in 2022 and sets targets to reduce serious injury crashes by 30 per cent and fatal crashes by 50 per cent by 2030.<\/p>\n
Speeds will be reduced following the shire’s speed review conducted in 2024.<\/p>\n
Acting general manager of placemaking and environment, John Bertoldi, said the revised limits were designed to improve safety across the network.<\/p>\n
“These speed changes ensure the local roads are consistent with the surrounding road network, making the area safer for all road users,” he said.<\/p>\n
The speed changes are:<\/strong><\/p>\n Ghazeepore Road, Mt Duneed Road to Dickens Road \u2013 from 100 km\/h to 80 km\/h.<\/p>\n Dickins Road, Freshwater Creek to Surf Coast Highway \u2013 from 100 km\/h to 80 km\/h.<\/p>\n Dans Road, McCanns Road to Winklers Lane \u2013 from 100 km\/h to 80 km\/h.<\/p>\n McCanns Road, Surf Coast Highway to Dans Road \u2013 from 100 km\/h to 80 km\/h.<\/p>\n Williams Road, Mt Dunner Road to road end \u2013 from 100 km\/h to 80 km\/h.<\/p>\n Fischers Road, Minya Lane to road end \u2013 from 100 km\/h to 80 km\/h.<\/p>\n Charlemont Road, Lower Duneed Road to McCanns Road \u2013 from 100 km\/h to 80 km\/h.<\/p>\n Winklers Lane, Lower Duneed Road to Dans Road \u2013 from 100 km\/h to 80 km\/h.<\/p>\n Minya Lane, Blackgate Road to Fishers Road \u2013 from 100 km\/h to 80 km\/h.<\/p>\n Point Impossible Road, Blackgate Road to road end \u2013 from 80 km\/h to 60 km\/h.<\/p>\n Bluestone School Road, Barwon Heads Road to Breamlea Road \u2013 from 80 km\/h to 60 km\/h.<\/p>\n Blackgate Road, Anglesea Road to road end \u2013 from 100 km\/h to 80 km\/h.<\/p>\n Funding to change the speeds at these roads has been provided through the Safer Local Streets and Roads program, funded by the Department of Transport and Planning, in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission.<\/p>\n Electronic signage across the shire has been erected in areas impacted by speed changes.<\/p>\n Speeding in Victoria carries penalties of at least $254 and one demerit point.
