About 14 vehicles were removed in the initial operation, with one caravan chassis unable to be safely retrieved because of the build up of sand and debris inside.<\/p>\n<p>But footage circulated on social media last month showed <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/flood-clean-up-leaves-cars-offshore\/\">several vehicles remained in the surf, prompting questions from locals<\/a> about why they had not yet been removed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/03\/651322429_1210296904_61798.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"751\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A further four vehicles and two camper trailers have been removed from the Cumberland River Beach this week. Photo: Supplied<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) said it had been assessing alternative options to safely retrieve the vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Since a Blackhawk helicopter was unable to remove all the vehicles in January, we&#8217;ve been looked at other viable options,&#8221; a GORCAPA spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After some careful planning and logistics to ensure we didn&#8217;t damage the sensitive foreshore, we&#8217;ve gone in and removed all the accessible remaining wrecks at low tide.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At least one vehicle remains in Cumberland River. Inaccessible even at low tide, it is understood the vehicle will be monitored and if it moves and is able to be retrieved, it will be.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Signage remains in place advising visitors about submerged hazards at the beach,&#8221; the GORCAPA spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>The recovered wrecks have been taken to a storage yard, and GORCAPA will contact the owners and insurance companies, where possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A further four vehicles and two camper trailers have been removed from the Cumberland River Beach following January\u2019s flash flooding along the Surf Coast.
