{"id":184903,"date":"2026-04-23T16:00:21","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T06:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/armstrongcreektimes\/?p=184903"},"modified":"2026-04-22T20:27:16","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T10:27:16","slug":"anzac-day-tradition-grows-as-clubs-unveil-commemorative-kits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/armstrongcreektimes\/sport\/anzac-day-tradition-grows-as-clubs-unveil-commemorative-kits\/","title":{"rendered":"Anzac Day tradition grows as clubs unveil commemorative kits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THREE clubs will wear bespoke kits for their 2026 Anzac Day clashes, continuing a growing tradition across Australian sport.<\/p>\n<p>Commemorative uniforms have become increasingly popular over the past decade, offering teams a meaningful way to honour the national day of remembrance.<\/p>\n<p>In the Geelong Football Netball League, St Joseph&#8217;s and St Albans have both organised new kits for the occasion.<\/p>\n<p>St Joseph&#8217;s has been a mainstay of Anzac Day fixtures for nearly 20 years, facing South Barwon in an annual clash that has developed into a strong rivalry.<\/p>\n<p>A-grade player Elli Leydin said the significance of the day is never lost on those involved.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_185284\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-185284\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-185284\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/ANZACDaygerseydesign_01739-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-185284\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Joseph&#8217;s players Elli Leydin and Paddy De Grandi. Photo: Michael Chambers.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is such an honour and a privilege to play in the Anzac Day round and to pay our respects to those who have served, and take a moment to reflect on what they sacrificed,&#8221; Leydin said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a club, we&#8217;re really proud to be part of that game every year, and we&#8217;ve built a great rivalry with South Barwon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For the first time, the club&#8217;s netballers will wear commemorative bibs alongside the football side&#8217;s guernseys.<\/p>\n<p>St Albans will also don Anzac Day uniforms for the first time.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_185283\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-185283\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-185283 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/ANZACDaygerseydesign_01746-683x1024.jpg?_t=1776837802\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-185283\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Albans players Lucy Wilson and Tom Brooks. Photo: Michael Chambers. `<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Senior footballer and committee member Brad Sinkinson said the opportunity carries deep meaning for the club.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a day of reflection and appreciation for all those who have served and continue to serve our great country,&#8221; Sinkinson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To be able to have a design on a jumper and bib this year is very exciting, and our playing group cannot wait to pull it on on the day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the Bellarine Football Netball League, Drysdale will once again wear a commemorative strip in its annual Anzac Day match against Portarlington.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_185282\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-185282\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-185282 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/ANZACDaygerseydesign_01725-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-185282\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Drysdale Hawks players Alyce Delaney and Jack Jenkins.
