	{"id":186117,"date":"2026-06-07T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/armstrongcreektimes\/?p=186117"},"modified":"2026-06-07T04:00:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T18:00:00","slug":"emerging-socceroo-eyes-world-cup-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/armstrongcreektimes\/sport\/emerging-socceroo-eyes-world-cup-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Emerging Socceroo eyes World Cup future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE best male soccer players from across the globe have arrived in America for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and, a little closer to home, the next generation of hopeful Socceroos will be watching closely.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong teenager Nate Bradley is among them.<\/p>\n<p>The 15-year-old midfielder, who first kicked a ball at the age of four, has recently been identified as an emerging Socceroo after captaining the Victorian Country under-16 team at the Emerging Socceroos Championships in April.<\/p>\n<p>Nate said it was only in recent years that he began to believe a career in the sport could be within reach.<\/p>\n<p>After spending much of his junior career with the Geelong Rangers, he has taken the next step by joining the Essendon Royals in Melbourne&#8217;s Junior Championship League.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a step that has helped him elevate his game.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a good test,&#8221; Nate said. &#8220;It&#8217;s a different standard of football in Melbourne. It makes you bring yourself up to those higher standards.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/06\/961d66f8-717e-426a-8_95486.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nate Bradley playing for Geelong Warriors. The way I play now is evolving and I am helping my teammates on field as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nate was one of eight Geelong juniors selected for captain or vice-captain roles in the Victorian Country teams ahead of the boys and girls championships.<\/p>\n<p>The opportunity to join players from across regional Victoria and represent the state on the national stage was one he relished.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[The team] is picked out of everywhere except for Melbourne \u2013 people in regional Victoria \u2013 and we got to represent the state in Sydney,&#8221; Nate said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was really exciting, like a pinch me moment for me. Photo: Supplied.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With millions set to tune into the World Cup, Nate believes the tournament is the perfect showcase for the sport.<\/p>\n<p>He has high hopes for the Australian team, who he believes will make it out of the group stage and as far as the round of 16.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is where you see the best players on display,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s probably the best thing to watch if you&#8217;re not watching [soccer] on other weeks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As for who will lift the trophy, Nate believes France will be the team to beat.<\/p>\n<p>Australia will open its campaign against T\u00fcrkiye on 14 June before competing against USA and Paraguay in the group stage over the following fortnight.<\/p>\n<p>The Socceroos will also face Switzerland in a friendly on 7 June before the tournament begins.<\/p>\n<p>The 2026 FIFA World Cup is being hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States.
