CITY OF BALLARAT

Golden Point

Tess Morgan

Occupation:

Teacher/Policy Advisor/Mother

Resides:

I have a strong connection to the Golden Point ward through teaching and community groups but live just south of the new boundary in the Buninyong Ward.

How long have you lived in your ward?:

Eight years.

Community involvement:

As a teacher I have witnessed the diverse needs of families across Ballarat while teaching and volunteering at many schools, primarily in Canadian, Alfredton and Mount Clear.

As a mother of two small children I use council services daily and know our community couldn’t do without resources like maternal child health nurses, kindergartens, our wonderful libraries, the parent place, playgroups and community centres.

I have been doorknocking throughout the entire Golden Point Ward and participating in a range of community events.

Associated with a political party or movement?:

I am not endorsed as a candidate by any party but am a member of the Australian Labor party.

I believe party politics has no place in the council chamber and if elected I will address each matter in accordance with its merits, my values and what is best for residents.

Preferencing:

I trust that members of our community can make the best choices for themselves so I won’t be preferencing any other candidates.

Campaign budget? Receiving financial support?:

I am self-funded and raised funds through events with friends, family and supporters to help cover costs. I don’t have a specific budget.

Three most important issues in your ward?:

Ensuring Golden Point Ward isn’t left behind. The city has a heavy focus on the growth areas in the west and big projects in the centre but all areas of Ballarat deserve a fair share of the city’s funding… Some areas are doing well while others aren’t even getting the basics.

Prioritising genuine consultation with the community before decisions are made…

Improving safety… Roads, footpaths, street lighting, crossings, speed humps, all of these are simple things that make people feel safer.
