BALLARAT’S Album Club demonstrates that the only thing better than listening to great music is listening to great music with others who love it as much as you do.
The new monthly Album Club Spring series dropped into the Ballarat Library this Wednesday for the first in the new series of evening sessions with others already scheduled for 15 October and 12 November.
Aimed at those who love music, are open to discovering new music and artists and like meeting new people, the Album Club meets up at 6pm for an hour-long session to discuss its chosen album of the month and talk about what else participants have been listening to.
It offers another means to discover new music and share the music you love, with Born Sandy Devotional by the Triffids the Album of the Month for September, and music documentaries the discussion topic for the first session in the new Spring series.
“The Ballarat Library Album Club is an ongoing monthly event at Ballarat Libraries, facilitated by passionate library staff with a love of music,” City of Ballarat director community wellbeing Matt Wilson said.
“Each month a participant selects an album for everyone to listen to and discuss, alongside broader topics like favourite music documentaries or one-hit wonders.”
Mr Wilson said it attracts a diverse group of music lovers, from teenagers to those in their 80s, with interests spanning pop, jazz, world and avant-garde.
“The club operates in a similar fashion to a traditional book club and offers a relaxed and social way to discover new music, share ideas and connect with others,” he said.
While the sessions are free, bookings are encouraged via Humanitix or through the library website.
“But walk-ins are always welcome.”
