All aboard for a Ballarat steam train experience

May 5, 2022 BY

Steamrail Victoria is returning with its ever-popular Ballarat to Lal Lal service over the two weekends of Heritage Fest.

TRAVEL in style on a classic vintage steam train this May.

Steamrail Victoria will be running steam train shuttles from Ballarat to Lal Lal over two weekends as part of the Ballarat Heritage Festival.

Boarding the vintage steam locomotive, passengers will sit in beautifully restored carriages from last century and make the 18‐kilometre trip from Ballarat Railway Station towards the tiny town of Lal Lal.

As the train leaves Ballarat the steam engines kick into gear to work up the hills, giving passengers a real feel for transportation in decades past.

Stopping just out of Lal Lal, the train returns to Ballarat, with patrons able to enjoy the stunning scenery along the way.

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to enjoy this unique offering. The steam trains are a crowd favourite experience, enjoyed by all.

“It’s really nice countryside, from the farmland to the forest through to Lal Lal,” said Steamrail Victoria’s Noah Clancey.

“It’s something different, even for the non‐train people, it’s a really interesting experience, especially for families.”

Steam train rides will depart from Ballarat Train Station five times daily on 21, 28 and 29 May.
