An enchanting evening of music
AN Enchanted Evening of music is heading to the Civic Hall next month.
The concert is a collaboration between Lianmeng AusChina Senior Choir and the Australian New Goldberg Orchestra.
Conducted by Andrew Grouch, who grew up in Ballarat, Enchanted Evening will celebrate the fusion of eastern and western music.
Singers Juel Riggal and Paul Biencourt will have solo performances and there will be compositions by Verdi, Bizet, Lehar, Strauss, and Massenet.
Emily Xiao Wang, founder of Lianmeng AusChina, said the performance is about celebrating diverse cultures.
“This project is trying to deliver a multicultural event because [the performers] are people of a Chinese background who are educated and live in Melbourne,” she said.
“They speak both languages, English and Chinese.”
Ballarat has strong Chinese history dating back to the goldrush, and Ms Xiao Wang said this makes the performance special.
“For Chinese people, Ballarat is a very special place,” she said.
“A lot of Ballarat people’s great grandparents are Chinese.
“We like to bring the young people to Ballarat to know about the history and what happened there.”
Ms Xiao Wang said she hopes attendees feel a sense of harmony at the concert.
“Music is actually a very special language, it doesn’t have letters, but it has notes,” she said.
“Notes can help you feel.”
Enchanted Evening will be on Sunday 16 June at 5pm. To book a ticket visit the Her Majesty’s Theatre website.
