Art group to display at distillery
The next joint exhibition for Soldiers Hill’s signature visual arts group is on show next week at a different kind of setting than your typical gallery space.
Opening on Thursday, November 28, a display of more than 20 works from members of Soldiers Hill Artist Collective, or SHAC, is featuring at Kilderkin Distillery over the holiday period.
Exhibitor and SHAC member Neale Thompson said SHAC’ N Not Stirred is giving attendees a unique artisanal experience.
“It adds another element to both our work as a group of artists and a business like Kilderkin,” he said.
“It’s putting forward that whole experience of having something to eat and drink in artisan-produced products so it aligns well with what we’re doing because we’re artists producing individual works.”
The show will be launching on Friday, November 29 at 6pm with local artist Rosalind Lawson presenting as special guest.
Showcasing solely 2D works, mediums in the collection range from photography, weaved works, watercolour, acrylic, and botanic prints.
The show is SHAC’s first at Kilderkin, and marks a deliberate trend for the group in exhibiting further abroad from their namesake suburb. “We feel by going outside Soldiers Hill and even Ballarat, it’s extending our reach further,” Thompson said.
“We’re looking beyond Ballarat at least once a year. Kilderkin is still local but we’re always looking for those venues to elevate our exposure.”
Throughout 2024, SHAC has exhibited at Art Space Ballarat, St Arnaud’s Raillery Hub Gallery, and the Willaura Modern as part of their SHAC on Track initiative.
SHAC’ N Not Stirred is on show until January 7. Viewing hours are 12 noon to 5pm Thursdays and Sundays, and 12pm to 7pm Fridays to Saturdays.
