ENTRIES have opened for artists to have their work displayed in a different setting to the average exhibition venue.

Residents at Lucas Lifestyle Estate will host their second annual art show in November with local creatives able to submit work until Tuesday 22 October.

Organising committee member Graham May said their debut exhibition last year was a huge draw for the community.

“The feedback from the artists was wonderful and it was extremely successful,” he said.

“The local Lucas community was very encouraging. We had lots of comments about the facility, and the ownership were very enthused because it led to a few showing interest in moving here.”

Last year’s show saw 109 works courtesy of 45 creatives. About $8000 worth of art was sold.

Mr May said this year’s exhibition will be expanded thanks to extensions made at the estate.

“We’re looking this year to not only have artwork but also photography,” he said.

“We’ve opened a new swimming pool pavilion and social area since last year and we’re going to dedicate the space there for photographs.

“Normal artwork will be on display in our community centre. We’re looking for any form through to printmaking and acrylics.”

Many artists featured in the inaugural show will be returning this year.

Mr May said he hopes to see about 50 photographs included.

Winners will share in up to $2000 in prize money, with $750 going to the best painter, and $400 for the best photograph.

A people’s choice category will be in place for attendees to vote on their favourite artwork and photograph, with $100 going to each relevant creative.

Entry forms for artists can be found via the art show’s Facebook page with submitters to pay $10 per artwork.

The Lucas Lifestyle Estate Art Show will run from 8 to 10 November at 21 Harris Drive.
