TIME travel at the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute this Sunday with a historical fashion parade and Devonshire tea fundraiser.

Tickets to the event, which is supported by the Ballarat Fashions In Time Group, cost $25 per person.

The afternoon will feature private collections of vintage items designed to take attendees through the decades of fashion.

“The Fashions In Time Group is a group of passionate locals that collect and appreciate all things fashion and vintage,” said Malcolm Roberts, BMI board member.

“Because they are so passionate about what they do, there will be a fashion parade through the decades where they take us from the Victorian period to the 1970s.”

Mr Roberts said one of the reasons people love historical fashion is that it evokes nostalgia.

“People love to be nostalgic,” he said.

“For a lot of people, it’s bringing back happy memories from childhood, or it reminds them of what their mother had or grandmother had.

“You love to find pieces or hear if there’s a story connected to it, that’s the beauty and the pleasure you get out of being a collector.”

The event is a way to raise funds to keep the BMI alive.

“It’s a fantastic venue and we want to show it off,” he said.

“It’s there for the public, it’s there for the community to use, so these sorts of things are a fantastic opportunity to showcase what the building is.”
