STUDENTS of all ages at Curtain Call Performing Arts Studios are busy prepping for the ultimate ABBA party.
The studio’s production of jukebox musical Mamma Mia! will hit the stage for three performances at Gay Gough Theatre, Mount Clear on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September.
A talented cast of 60 dancing queens and kings are vowing to sweep audiences off their feet.
A treat for musical-goers will be an extra-special Sunday morning sing-a-long performance at 11am.
Featuring more than 20 of ABBA’s infectious hits, including Does Your Mother Know, Money Money Money, Take A Chance On Me, Super Trouper, The Winner Takes It All, Dancing Queen, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, Voulez-Vous and, of course, the title song, Mamma Mia! The Musical has wowed audiences worldwide.
CCPAS is excited to be putting its own unique spin on the smash hit show.
“We really underestimated how fun it would be to sing the ABBA music, so the rehearsal process has remained very enjoyable since we started rehearsing nine months ago,” said director Lindy Crowe.
For the cast, being a part of one of the world’s favourite feelgood musicals has been a dream come true. “It’s a dream show we have wanted to do for a long time so it’s very exciting to have the opportunity,” said Amy Watts, who plays Tanya. “I’m working against other strong actors and getting to perform ABBA songs I’ve been singing since I was four years old.
“My favourite song in the show is Chiquitita, which I get to sing, and the costumes are a lot of fun.”
Hannah Sergeant Crowe has relished the challenge of playing Donna, as much as she has embracing the feelings of nostalgia.
“Mamma Mia! has great ABBA music, including amazing six part harmonies that will blow the audience away,” she said.
“It’s non-stop laughs and features a cast of young local Ballarat talent.
“I am loving the challenge of singing, dancing and acting all at once.”
Mamma Mia! will be performed on Saturday 13 September at 7.30pm, and Sunday 14 September at 11am (sing-a-long performance) and 3.30pm.
