Lucky Starr and Rodney Vincent.

LUCKY Starr and Rodney Vincent are Australian music industry stalwarts.

Age has not wearied them, or as Vincent says, “We’re not here for a long time; we’re here for a good time.”

Add someone like the evergreen Lucky Starr and his Australian classic song I’ve Been Everywhere Man into the mix and you have a recipe for a great night’s entertainment.

Starr says he is perennially grateful for the success he enjoyed with his 1962 hit because, well, it’s taken him everywhere, all over the world.

Like, to the US where he worked the Nevada circuit, The Flamingo in Las Vegas, The Mapes in Reno and Harvey’s in Lake Tahoe.

Also, in the same year, Starr signed a recording contract with Dot Records in Los Angeles, releasing five singles.

He is one of the founding members of the Australian pop music industry; he was a regular on television shows such as Bandstand, hosted Six O’Clock Rock for one season and made many appearances on Mavis Bramston, In Melbourne Tonight, Sing Sing Sing and other entertainment shows.

Rodney Vincent is a seasoned performer who first surfaced on New Faces many moons ago. Soon after, he was a member of the Channel 9 singers on In Melbourne Tonight, which featured Australian television icons Graham Kennedy, Ugly Dave Grey and Bert Newton, among other household names.

His story continued as he hit the television and the cabaret circuit around Australia. A one-night special guest performance with legendary rock ‘n’ roller Gene Pitney led to a personal invitation to be his guest on five Australian tours, over 120 shows.

Pitney and Vincent ended up co-writing two songs together, What a Big Surprise and Let’s Not Make the Same Mistake Again.

“Rodney put his vocal down in Melbourne with some great musicians and sent the tape to me in the US. I recorded my harmonies in my studio at home and mixed the final version, which was sent back to Australia,” Pitney said.

Last year was a very successful year for Vincent, with his gospel version of Speak to the Sky with Lisa Edwards (backing vocalist for John Farnham) going to number one on the community FM radio charts, and then he was inducted into the Wall of Honour at LBS Studios in Tamworth – an award he is very proud of.

Performing music and entertaining are like oxygen for these two well-seasoned Australian music legends

“Our show is a mixture of country, comedy and rock and roll; a fun time for all,” Vincent said.
