THE Little Brass Band is preparing to play its heart out in a special afternoon concert supporting the vital work of Lifeline Ballarat next Sunday 5 October.
The Catchy Classics in Concert event will feature the classical music hits everyone is familiar with, and that many love.
It will take place at 2pm at Ballarat Central Uniting Church, which is supporting the event by providing the venue at no cost.
“We are playing selections from many well-known classical and operatic repertoire, and trying to attract an audience who don’t normally listen to classical music or attend classical concerts,” The Little Brass Band manager Janice Lynn said.
“They will actually know all the tunes.”
Ms Lynn plays French horn and also works as a crisis support worker with Lifeline Ballarat.
The Little Brass Band will be joined by special guests Claritude Clarinet Quartet in presenting an afternoon of “exciting quirky arrangements of famous classics”.
The Little Brass Band has acquired a track record for delivering concerts supporting the not-for-profit welfare and health sector and next Sunday’s concert continues that trend.
“All funds raised will go towards supporting Lifeline Ballarat community training in suicide awareness and prevention,” Ms Lynn said.
“Apart from the suicide prevention phone line contact with callers in crisis, the Ballarat Lifeline staff also run training sessions and workshops in suicide awareness and prevention within the community.
“The work they do is amazing. The concert is just a way to have a fun afternoon of quirky popular classics that everyone knows, even if they don’t think they like classical music.”
Tickets are through Trybooking and at the door, $20 full price, $10 concession, kids under 12 free and donations welcome.
