BALLARAT Choral Society (BCS) will be in full song when it presents For the Joy of Singing in the Ballarat Performing Arts Community chapel next Sunday.

The performance will take place at 3.30pm on Sunday 17 August at the venue on Neil Street, Soldiers Hill.

Led by musical director Helen Duggan, BCS will perform a set of songs from Calvin Bowman’s An Elizabethan Song Book, along with another set of songs from John Rutter’s The Sprig of Thyme.

Ballarat Voices children’s choir will also perform some Australian songs under the direction of its musical director Lyndell Allen.

BCS specialises in religious and secular classical music and has a long history of more than 120 years.

Originally founded as a community choir, it’s renowned for striving for high standards in its performances, tackling both classic and contemporary compositions.

A repeat performance, taking place to support the Carngham Memorial Uniting Church fund, will also be held at 3.30pm the following Sunday 24 August at the historic church at 954 Linton-Carngham Road, Snake Valley.

“We have an organist who is our accompanist and she will be playing the historic organ at the Carngham Memorial Uniting Church performance,” BCS secretary Lyn Broadstock said.

“We will also have wonderful Ballarat pianist Jack Stacey accompanying us with some of our work, and also performing solo at the Carngham Church performance. Afternoon tea will be accompanying both performances.

“We also have a performance coming up in November with Victorian Opera and we are always on the lookout for extra singers if people would like to join us. We will welcome all voices and we especially need some more bass singers.”
