FEDERAL Member for Ballarat, Catherine King has announced that a re-elected Labor Government will allocate $500,000 to revitalise

Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council’s Ballarat Welcome Centre.

The Ballarat Welcome Centre at Barkly Square is a hub for multicultural community activities in the region.

The election commitment will aim to create a vibrant, welcoming and inclusive community space for people regardless of their backgrounds or abilities.

The lead tenant at the centre is BRMC, the peak multicultural agency in the Central Highlands Grampians Region.

It represents 29 cultural and faith associations. The centre also hosts the Centre for Multicultural Youth.

Renovation of the site will improve accessibility and provide increased capacity for BRMC and CMY to host a wider range of multicultural programs and events.

It will include making the front foyer a more welcoming entryway, new accessible lift access, installation of public toilets, improvements to walkways, painting, plastering and upgrades to furnishings.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments including this project will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

“The Ballarat Welcome Centre serves as a vital hub for networking, social cohesion, and capacity building through the many programs and activities offered by BRMC and the CMY,” said Ms King.

“This upgrade will improve accessibility thus making the centre even more inclusive and will ensure every visitor feels valued and welcome. Diversity makes our community a better place.

“Since its establishment over 25 years ago BRMC has played an integral role in supporting migrants and promoting interculturalism throughout our region. The Albanese Government is proud to support BRMC in their critical work.”
