AWARD-winning brass quintet The Little Brass Band will be at the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute this month performing jazz and popular tunes.

The group, which hails from the goldfields region, includes members Frank Dyer, Claire O’Brien, Janice Lynn, Cassandra Hiscock and Matthew Pankhurst.

They will begin their performance with jazz, blues and swing music before moving to popular songs by artists including Elton John and Elvis Presley.

“There really will be something for everybody,” BMI board chair Paula Nicholson said.

The group have previously performed across the country, including at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, the Australian National Band Championships and Ballarat Heritage Festival.

The performance is a fundraiser for the BMI which relies on donations and grants.

Lynn said it’s important to support the region’s historical buildings.

“There’s been so many buildings that have been pulled down or they’ve lost a lot of their fronts,” she said.

“It’s really important to keep to the heritage and maintain these old buildings as much as possible.”

Ms Nicholson said the performance is also an opportunity to view the building’s Minerva Space.

“It’s a good chance too for people to come along and have a look at a space that’s not open to the public all the time,” she said.

The performance will take place on Sunday 10 August from 2pm until 4pm.

Tickets start at $21. To book, visit the BMI website.
