FORMER Epicure lead vocalist Juan Alban is celebrating the release of his third solo album with a show at Ballarat Trades Hall.
Alban’s Guilt Zone is out now, and he said it has an eclectic mix of styles and influences.
“I had a lot of collaborators from this album with local musicians and musicians from Melbourne and abroad who’ve played on the record,” he said.
“It’s a little bit hard to categorise sound-wise but I used to be in a band called Epicure which was pretty well known in Ballarat and I wrote the songs in that band… so there’s some similarities there.”
Alban was part of Epicure when he was 16 years old with appearances at Falls Festival and Big Day Out, four studio albums, and four songs in Triple J’s Hottest 100.
The band reunited last year for the reopening of Her Majesty’s Theatre with their first live performance since 2015.
“There’s an element of looking back rather than forward [in the album],” Alban said.
“I guess at the stage of my life, entering middle age there’s a sort of nostalgia to it and some sentimentality.”
Alban will perform alongside his band The Guilt Zone comprised of Dave Manton (guitar), Heath McCurdy (keys), Dave Oxley (bass) Steven Clifford Veale (pedal steel/guitar), Matt Vance (drums) and guest vocalist Daisy Kilbourne.
The album launch will take place Saturday 26 July from 7pm. To purchase a ticket, visit bit.ly/3G0yP6a .
