NINE gardens in Creswick and surrounds, and a flower show, will be open to the public this weekend.

The ninth Creswick Garden Lovers’ Weekend, hosted by the Creswick Garden Club, invites people across the region to tour private gardens, and those of community partners John Curtin Aged Care and Shannon’s Bridge End of Life Care Hub.

A flower show presenting impressive cuttings from some of the club’s 100 members will be on display at the Creswick Neighbourhood Centre.

Co-organiser Margaret Giles emphasised the community nature of the event.

“People compliment us on the feel of the weekend, and enjoy being a part of the Creswick community,” she said.

Private gardens to be opened are Harvest Cottage, Pozieres, The Folly Garden, Nandina, Ophir, Seven Hills Watergarden, Yeramba Farmstay, the Black Cat Homestead Garden and The Miners Cottage.

Gary Martyn will open his pretty cottage garden after a positive first experience taking part in the weekend in 2023.

His cottage dates back somewhere between 1860 and 1880, and he’s lived there for three years.

“The style of architecture means you can do anything with the garden and the cottage still looks great,” he said.

Gary Martyn’s garden is an example of what you can do, not only within a property, but on the nature strip.

“I really enjoyed the Garden Lovers’ Weekend. The people were so complimentary, smiling and really happy. I had people come from Nhill, Geelong, Melbourne…

“People asked how long I’d been here for, I explained what was mature from previous owners and what was new.

“People were so interested and it was a real boost to me. I got a lot out of it.”

The Creswick Garden Lovers’ Weekend will be held on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 November. Tickets can be purchased at the Neighbourhood Centre.

Entry to private gardens is $6 per person per garden, and entry to community partner gardens is free.
