Kee’ahn to play Art Late concert
As part of the JXSH MVIR: Forever I Live retrospective at the Art Gallery of Ballarat, Yalanji, Jirrbal, and Badu islander artist Kee’ahn will be performing on the night of December 14.
The late Gunditjmara, Yorta Yorta and Barkindji artist, Josh Muir was born in Ballarat and died two years ago suddenly, aged 30.
The Art Late series concert will honour Josh and the exhibition, with Kee’ahn to play island soul, R’n’B and pop with support from Ballarat singer-songwriter DeborahN, a Meriam woman of the Torres Strait Islands.
“JXSH MVIR: Forever I Live highlights the strength of Muir’s artistic practice and the important contribution he made to First Peoples art and culture in South East Australia, as well as to contemporary art nationally and internationally,” a statement from the Art Gallery of Ballarat said.
“It is co-curated by his mother, Justine Berg and partner Shanaya Sheridan, which adds to the heart and soul of the exhibition.
“The works in the exhibition not only reflect Muir’s ongoing artistic legacy, but the artist himself immortalised through his art.
“The exhibition also emphasises Muir’s love of family and community, drawing on a range of themes including cultural identity, the impacts and legacies of colonisation, mental health, addiction, personal loss and grief.”
Art Late with Kee’ahn and deborahN will be held on December 14 from 6.30pm.
Tickets are available at artgalleryofballarat.com.au and include entry to all gallery spaces and supper.
