Local distillery’s award–winning spirits ideal for Christmas
FAMILY business Kilderkin Distillery’s award-winning gins, gin liqueurs and whisky make the ideal present for loved ones this festive season.
With gin crackers starting at $16 to bottles of locally made sprits and new products coming soon, there is so much on offer.
Winner of a gold and two silver medals at the 2025 London Spirits Competition and best in class at the 2024 Australian Gin Awards, the small business ages their spirits in Kilderkin barrels and uses traditional methods.
Their Scoundrel and Original Larrikin gins were released in 2017, and all gins are distilled, hand bottled and labelled in the Ballarat distillery.
“We’re entirely local,” co-owner Chris Pratt said.

“We make the products on site, we sell them here, we sell them through local businesses and it’s really important to us that people come on board and support local as much as they can.”
Local products are central to Kilderkin, with botanicals and other ingredients sourced from within the community, such as Sovereign Hill’s famous raspberry drops.
The gift ideas don’t stop at spirits, with gift vouchers for three-hour gin distilling masterclasses on offer that include a welcome drink, gin tasting, creating and bottling your own gin, and trying it in a drink with a cheese platter.
“[Business owners] are extremely committed to working in the local area to provide a service or a product,” Mr Pratt said. “It’s nice to see that commitment returned.”
To purchase a gift, visit the Kilderkin Distillery website or the distillery at 14A Hill Street, Mount Pleasant.
