FAMILIES and community members are invited to attend an official launch of the Multicultural Storytime program on Wednesday 10 September at Djila-tjarriu Community Centre.
The program is presented by Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council (BRMC) in collaboration with the City of Ballarat’s Community Hubs team.
Multicultural Storytime was first launched in 2024 and has become a treasured program for families with children under five.
The program celebrates Ballarat’s diverse cultures and encourages a love of reading from a young age.
Health-related stories, songs and activities are featured in different languages at each session.
“Multicultural Storytime is more than reading aloud,” said BRMC program manager, Heeyoung Lim.

“It’s about belonging, pride, and making sure every child feels their culture is valued.
“This launch marks a new chapter in how we celebrate and connect as a community.”
Some of the parents attending the program said they were proud to share their language and see other parents and children learning words in different languages.
They said their children enjoy the time playing and engaging with other kids of a similar age.
Storytelling, face painting, henna art, and mask decoration will feature at the launch, and there will be opportunities to connect with local community services.
The launch will be held from 1.30pm to 3pm at Djila-tjarriu Community Centre, 18 Donegal Drive, Alfredton.
