TWO projects in the region have been shortlisted as finalists in the 2025 Victorian Architecture Awards, with winners to be announced in June.

The designers of stage three of the Her Majesty’s Theatre redevelopment and Grey House in Daylesford are in the running for top honours.

The theatre development architect, Conservation Studio, has been shortlisted in the Heritage Architecture category, and Adam Kane Architects is listed in the Residential Architecture – Houses (New), Interior Architecture category for the Grey House project.

Run annually by the Victorian chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects, the awards celebrate the best architecture across the state, collectively showcasing the positive impacts of architects in shaping the built landscape.

The Victorian awards this year have attracted the largest number of entries of all states and a total of 384 submissions across 15 categories.

Winners will be announced at a dinner at the Pullman Albert Park on 27 June and will go on to compete in the National Architecture Awards, announced in November.

The public can view the finalists’ work at an exhibition of entries at Deakin University in Burwood.

The 2025 chair of juries, Hamish Lyon, said this year’s awards program continued to illustrate the contributions that architects make, from projects involving local community facilities “and the adaptive reuse of existing buildings to the larger footprint of city-shaping infrastructure projects.”

“Against the backdrop of climate change, economic uncertainties and the need for greater access to housing, it is encouraging to see the significant role that many of this year’s entrants are making to address these contemporary challenges,” Mr Lyon said.

The Conservation Studio entry is up against six other contenders in its category and Adam Kane Architects against 12 others in its category.
