The beauty of local landscapes
AN exhibition by Sarah Stockdale at Art Space Ballarat is capturing the scenery of Ballarat and surrounds.
My Beautiful Home features 29 works which have been painted over the last six to eight months.
Stockdale took inspiration from familiar and new locations around the region.
“I’ve been painting basically my whole life, and the idea came about because I was already painting a few landscapes and I really enjoyed it,” she said.
“I get really emotionally attached to my pieces and I just think our local landscapes are beautiful.
“We like to go hiking as a family when we are able and see different places locally which always inspired me.”
Stockdale said she expects the exhibition will get people looking at Ballarat through a new lens.
“I am hoping people feel a renewed love of their town, seeing it painted, and that it evokes emotion,” she said.
“Just a new appreciation.”
The chance for Stockdale to showcase her work came about through Creative Ballarat and she said she appreciates the ways in which City of Ballarat staff aim to support local artists.
“I think the opportunities that are available are wonderful,” she said.
“It was an amazing opportunity to have this space.”
My Beautiful Home is open until Sunday 7 July at Art Space Ballarat, 14 Lydiard St north, Ballarat.
