ONE of the largest companies in Ballarat is set to invest hundreds of millions of dollars into its Australian manufacturing.

Mars will spend $200 million on its operations by the end of 2027, and expand its capacity, fuel innovation and back its renewable energy ambitions.

Tim Ayers, federal minister for industry and innovation, was in Ballarat this month as Mars revealed the financial backing.

“Mars has a long history manufacturing in Australia and I’m delighted to see this $200 million investment to continue improving their Asquith, Bathurst, Wyong, Ballarat, Wacol and Wodonga facilities,” he said.

The company has spent more than $450 million on its Australian operations since 2020.

Michael Ryan, managing director and general manager of Mars Snacking Australia and New Zealand, said the funding would enable the company to increase operational efficiencies.

“Investing $200 million across our Australian manufacturing footprint will help advance our ambitions both in terms of output capacity, efficiency and increasing our use of renewable energy to reduce our carbon emissions,” he said.

Mars has a 110-year manufacturing history in Australia.

“We’re extremely proud of our manufacturing history and long-standing commitment to delivering products Australians trust and love,” Ryan said.

“Today, 90 per cent of what we sell in Australia is made locally and Mars brands can be found in nine out of 10 Australian households, with our pet care brands feeding around half of all Aussie pets.

“This latest commitment builds on the vision of Mars to help shape the future of Australian manufacturing, creating long-term value for people, pets and the planet.”
