A CHARITY event organised by Rebel Ride Co will raise money for Keeley’s Cause.
The event, to be held on Saturday 8 March, will include a show and shine, trade and market stalls, elite bikes and children’s activities.
“This is the very first time we’ve done anything like this,” organiser Fraser Wood said.
“We started putting feelers out seeing how big we could potentially make it and now we’ve got 15 stalls.”
Keeley’s Cause provides iPads to children with autism and intellectual disabilities.
It was established by Keeley Johnson and her mother Sharon Murphy after they saw the positive impact technology can have.
Mr Wood said he can see first-hand the benefits of technology.
“I work in disability support, and I see the front of that,” he said.
“Sharon does this fantastic speech about Keeley getting through high school with the help of technology.
“Communication-wise it’s huge; being able to touch a button and tell someone what you need is life-changing.”
Mr Wood encouraged the community to come along and said he hopes the event changes community perceptions of biker groups.
“We’re trying to brush off that big, scary biker mentality,” he said. “That’s the heart of it really.
“There’s a big difference between bikies and bikers and we’re trying to make a family fun day for everyone.”
The event will be held at North Ballarat Sports Club from 10am until 5pm.
