A good old time at historic precinct

SMYTHESDALE will be going on a trip down music memory lane with the arrival of a new one-off live music event taking place in early March.

Called the Smythesdale Jail House Rock, the concert will take place at the Woady Yaloak Historical Police Precinct on Sunday, 6 March.

The event will comprise music from the 50s and beyond with entertainment provided by a roster of five acts.

Event coordinator, Lin Hocking-Turnbull, said the concert will provide a way to boost Smythesdale’s economy while entertaining the community.

“We’ve got local performers and we’ve got local businesses to do the catering rather than food trucks,” she said.

“Everyone is thrilled that we’re doing that instead of bringing in outside trade.”

Covers duo Rock ‘N Roll Stroll will open the event with music from the 50s and 60s, followed a performance and meet-and-greet by the Peppa Pig & Spiderman Stage Show.

70s and 80s music will then be provided by The One Off’s before Retro Revival finishes the concert with a string of pop hits.

Attendees will be able to pre-order food from supporting cafes and restaurants via phone app in an effort to support local businesses.

Ms Hocking-Turnbull said she’s looking forward to being able to hold a small but accessible community event for the town.

“That’s the big thing, just seeing everyone getting together and enjoying themselves and having fun to some great music,” she said.

Smythesdale Jail House Rock will start at 1pm and last until 6pm, with an entry cost of a gold coin donation.
