A NEW monthly second-hand market is set to return courtesy of volunteers with the Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre.

Introduced last month, the organisation’s free Trash and Treasure Market will be back tomorrow for people looking for preloved items at a bargain price.

Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre manager Manya Ferwerda said the initiative is about providing a sustainable platform for the community’s perused goods.

“The aim is to have this for second-hand goods and people who make things out of that,” she said.

“It’s about that recreate, rehome, rethink, recycle approach. With Rotary’s trash and treasure gone missing, it’s sort of filling in that gap.

“We have sustainability embedded in our strategic plan and we’ve just moved to our new space so it’s about activating the space here as well.”

Indoor stall placement can be booked at $20 while outdoor and car boot sale spots are $10 each and table hire for $5 each.

Ms Ferwerda said the market has been warmly received.

“We’ve got people already booked for markets in advance and people were saying they hadn’t heard about the first one and they’ll be there next time,” she said.

“It’s had a great response.”

Costs will go towards Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre’s ongoing efforts.

“We’re a non-for-profit,” Ms Ferwerda said. “The whole market’s run by volunteers and we have our op shop on the day.

“The idea is to have a little bit of fun to support the services in the area like the Men’s Shed program.

“We also have other services like the Soup Bus and Women’s Shed who we don’t charge rent for so they can be in this space and have a home of their own.”

The Trash and Treasure Market is set to take place on the third Saturday of every month, and following the winter months will likely see an added capacity of 100 stalls.

With setup taking place from 8am, the market will run from 9am until 12pm at 12 Holly Grove, Wendouree.
