A second taste of a radical new sport
BALLARAT is bracing for its second taste of one of Australia’s newest participation sports. J-Ball is a 6-a-side version of hockey based on fun, fitness and social inclusion across a range of age groups.
Ballarat was one of a handful of test sites for the new game when it launched across Victoria at the start of winter.
A hardy group of players showed significant enthusiasm for the new format, battling their way through some testing conditions at Llanberris Athletics Centre on Friday nights.
Now the organisers are keen to attract more players to the game.
They’ve changed venue to the Ballarat Hockey Centre at Prince of Wales Park, opposite the Aquatic Centre.
They’re starting with a come and try event this Friday night, designed to attract new players to the game.
“J – Ball is a brand-new game based on all things social,” said Hockey Victoria CEO Andrew Skillern.
“We want to give people a format they can be excited about and enjoy with their friends, family or even on their own.” Mr Skillern said.
All equipment will be provided.
The details are: J-Ball Come and Try night, Friday, 21 September at 7pm at the Ballarat Hockey Centre, Gillies Street.
