MEMBER for Wendouree Juliana Addison has been appointed chair of a Parliamentary Environment and Planning Committee.

Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, and Department of Transport and Planning issues can be reviewed by the Legislative Assembly committee, which is made up of MPs from various parties.

The group’s aim is to gain understanding of a problem by collecting and assessing public and expert information and evidence, and has launched an inquiry into employers and contractors refusing to pay subcontractors for completed works.

“We’re especially interested in hearing from organisations who deal with non-payment of subcontractors for finished works,” Ms Addison said.

“Individuals and organisations who have experienced non-payment for completed works, and employers and subcontractors who have been involved in matters related to non-payment of subcontractors.

“If you have a story to share which is relevant to those terms of reference, please go to our inquiry website and fill out the e-submission form by Friday the 19th of May.”

After written submissions are reviewed, public hearings will be held where members of the public can speak to committee members. There may be site visits as a follow up.

With reference to written submissions, and all notes taken from the public hearings, committee members will create a final report with discoveries, and recommend ways the State Government could improve this space through policy.

Ms Addison’s role is to oversee committee members’ conduct, run meetings and hearings without bias, follow procedures, speak to media, and lead the creation of the report.

Each of the report’s recommendations must be acknowledged within six months of it being published.
