Affordable fun at the Design Exchange
THE Design Exchange Market will be offering affordable fun for the entire family next weekend.
Entry to the two-day event held at the Mining Exchange is free for children or $5 for adults, and Design Exchange Market founder, Lyndelle Flintoft, said it is the perfect day out.
“It’s important for us to create an outing that is affordable with under 18s getting in for free,” she said.
“We trying to do our part in making sure the community has things to do when times are really tough.”
There will be kids shows, facepainting, artisan food and drinks, and more than 50 stalls by independent designers.
On the Saturday night, the building will come alive with a DJ and whisky bar, which will have a warm and cozy atmosphere.
“We’ve got a little whisky bar happening and mulled gin and whiskies,” said Ms Flintoff.
“It’s just making it nice and cozy and warm with lots of new stallholders which is great.
“For $5 entry they can come in and have free music and entertainment.”
The evening will be great for families with elements appealing to both adults and children.
“It’s a nice time to do some family stuff where parents can have a responsible drink and there is music so the kids can be dancing,” said Ms Flintoff.
“We are about a family environment and fun and shopping and eating.”
The mission of the market is to encourage people to shop sustainably, and Ms Flintoff said the event is a great way to introduce the concept to children.
“I think it’s super important for us to support small designers and local manufacturers instead of large conglomerates,” she said.
“Putting that in front of children and having them entertained but also through a different way of shopping is a great way to change things up.”
The Design Exchange Market will be on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July. For more info visit The Design Exchange.
