IN the last month, a fifteen per cent increase of glass, including bottles and jars, has been dropped off at council’s Pass on Glass stations.

City of Ballarat’s Waste Services staff are now making four or five collections a week at each of the eight drop-off sites around Ballarat in response.

A spokesperson for Waste Services said that trips to drop-off glass should only be made if it’s “essential” for a household to do so, and the team is keeping an eye on the workings of each site in case they need to adapt them to run smoothly.

The glass must be placed into a skip bin, not near it. If the skip at your closest site is full and glass is above the red line, try not to contribute to any overflowing. Instead take your glass to the transfer station on Gillies Street, Wendouree which can accommodate more.

The Pass on Glass points are based outdoors at the transfer station, the Coltman Plaza car park, Eastwood Street Shopping Centre car park, Midvale Shopping Centre, Buninyong Recreation Reserve, the Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club, Miners Rest General Store and Stockland Wendouree.

With appropriate social distancing in place, visits to the transfer station may take a little longer than usual, with staff working to ensure the safety of public traffic.
