Americana artist set to launch single
LOCAL Americana-influenced songwriter Jeremy Beggs is celebrating a new release with the launch of his latest single Been Looking For.
Released to digital platforms last week, the track marks his seventh effort since going solo from local indie folk group The Suffringtons.
Beggs said the song is a full circle release, conceived about five years ago during his band days.
“I wrote it with a friend Anthony Brooks when we were in The Suffingtons,” he said. “Anthony wrote most of the lyrics and I put the music to it.
“I hadn’t really done anything with it and a couple years later and gave it more of an Americana twist to it.
“I was in contact with Anthony throughout but the original had probably more of a rock feel originally. The lyrics have remained unchanged but it’s the feel of the whole tune.”
The single was launched at Northcote’s Merri Creek Tavern last week while its home unveiling will take place tonight at the Eastern from 7pm, with some of the show to be recorded.
Been Looking For marks Beggs’ follows his 2023 singles Signal Me in and Hurtful Ways released in October and March respectively.
He said it’s a more assured take on his recently adopted Americana style.
“Changing the style of the song, I think I’ve become more comfortable writing songs in that Americana, country sort of style,” he said.
“I’ve released two singles before this in that style but this one really starts to sound like me and the band I play with.”
Beggs is joined by backing band Long Road Travellers, which features Ross Tweeddale on drums and vocals, Craig Ditchfield on bass, and Ash MacLean on pedal steel guitar.
He aims to be in the studio again during winter to track more songs.
