Art in the gardens as Easter show blooms
WORKS by 30 Ballarat region artists will be on display when the Ballarat Society of Artists’ Annual Easter Art Show gets underway tomorrow, Friday 18 April.
The long-running celebration of local art, held at the Robert Clark Horticultural Centre in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens, will be open from 10am to 4pm daily from tomorrow until Monday.
An official opening and prize awards are scheduled for 2pm tomorrow.
Society assistant secretary Sue Clarke said the show was now in its 42nd year and had proven over the years to be a very popular local art event.
“Thirty artists are participating this year with a variety of works ranging from collagraph, mixed media, linoprint, acrylic, oils, watercolour and pastel,” Ms Clarke said.
“There is a wonderful range of styles to see.
“Our eclectic group looks forward to this event every year. The Ballarat Botanical Gardens look beautiful at this time and a visit to the conservatory and gardens over Easter is always a delight.
“Come along and enjoy the local artists’ creations. The event is free and there will be art, framed and unframed, and cards for sale.”
This year’s judge is Jacqueline Doughty, assistant director (curatorial) at the Art Gallery of Ballarat.
The show will feature a raffle, with two prizes: a painting by Lyn Cooke as first prize and a painting by Jennifer Sutterby as second prize.
The raffle will be drawn on Easter Monday, 21 April.
