Art show back to take over town

THE Pyrenees Art Exhibition is back for its sixteenth year and being held in the Beaufort Town Hall over the King’s Birthday long weekend.

The event run Pyrenees Arts Council alongside the Rotary Club of Beaufort will showcase a range of works from local artists and those further afield, who work on oil, watercolour, acrylic, pastel and mixed media.

There will also a section dedicated to works about the theme ‘fire and flood.’

“It’s the main art event for the area,” said member of the Pyrenees Arts Council, Angela Gerrard.

“Last year there were 400 entries of a really high standard and they’re from across Australia.”

Opening night will be on from 7.30pm on Friday, 9 June where attendees can get a first look at the exhibition and prize winners will be announced.

The exhibition also provides a way for the community to come together and build connections.

“It’s so important that there’s an event for the community,” said Gerrard. “As a local artist myself it’s great to have somewhere to exhibit my artwork but also the art exhibition here is a really great community event.

“It gives a great opportunity for community groups to get involved so it’s a really inclusive event with groups coming together to make the event happen.”

Gerrard will also be holding workshops along with Deborah Bourke over the weekend and visitors can get hands on with a range of mediums and ask questions.

“We’ll both be working on our own artworks throughout the weekend and we’ll be doing demonstrations and workshops which is new this year,” Gerrard said.

“I’ll also have one of my art classes running on the Sunday afternoon.”

As part of the event Devonshire teas will be on offer, served by the Beaufort Girl Guides.
