Artists group displays their scene
BALLARAT Society of Artists members are showcasing their lives and surrounds as part of a new exhibition at the Mercure Ballarat.
The show, titled My Scene, features more than 50 of the group’s roughly 70 artists of varying mediums, among them president Trudy Nicholson.
She said the show’s theme gave her the freedom to explore her ideal location.
“I did seascape things because I love to be at the beach so I did birds flying over the waves and a beach scene at Anglesea after going down and taking some photos,” she said.
“It’s sort of a comment on the deterioration of the foreshore. It’s a lovely image of the sand as it creeps up on Anglesea. Seascapes are my scene. They’re where I’d like to be.
“There aren’t many landscapes for this one. It’s very diverse with a few abstract works, some seascapes, a couple of people in parks and gardens, some prints and still life.”
The exhibition is part of the BSA’s annual showcase at Mercure Ballarat.
Each work is for sale, and participating artists will be on hand from 10am to 4pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to coordinate purchases.
Nicholson said the Mercure is always a fantastic venue to showcase the works of society members.
“There’s always a lot of people coming through,” she said. “When we were setting up, for example, there were two conferences on.
“When you’ve got a couple hundred there using the space, it’s a really good space to show what our members can do.”
My Scene is on show until Sunday 19 November.
