Award for catchment management authority
VIC Catchments, which is the peak body for the state’s ten Catchment Management Authorities, has taken out the nature positive category of the National Banksia Sustainability Awards.
The awards aimed to recognise organisations that are trailblazers in environmental and social sustainability.
There were fourteen categories such as travel, agriculture and conservation, and the winners were announced at a gala dinner last month.
Cath Jenkins, chair of Vic Catchments, accepted the award on behalf of the ten organisations.
“For over 25 years CMAs have been at the forefront of working with communities to deliver incredible results for the catchments across Victoria,” she said.
“It’s a delight to be recognised by such a prestigious organisation.”
Last year CMAs across Victoria improved more than 300 hectares of vegetation to create habitat for native animals, improved the practices on more than 9000 hectares of agricultural land and undertook more than 47,000 hectares of weed control.
“We are a relatively small, yet passionate team and deliver projects on behalf of Australian and Victorian governments,” said Ms Jenkins.
“Partnerships are one of our biggest strengths and we share this success with everyone, Traditional Owners, partner organisations, community and government.
“We have achieved great outcomes for out natural environments, catchments, agricultural landscapes and communities in our 26 years, and we are only just getting started.”
