THE Ballarat Careers Expo committee have cancelled this year’s event due to COVID-19 restrictions.

It was originally set for Monday, 16 August, and to be held at held at Ballarat Grammar.

The annual expo is aimed at regional secondary students, families, and those looking for a professional change and offers career advice and information from universities, TAFEs, education and training providers and job representatives.

“The decision has been made that due to the COVID restrictions, there is no real chance of us hosting the event this year,” said Jill Coote on behalf of the Ballarat Careers Expo committee.

“We have looked at other options and discussed if we could postpone it, restrict it to just having students attend, and whether we could try perhaps for a virtual event, but all up, we have made the call to cancel the event completely this year.

“We were in a great place, with positive responses from a large number of universities and job representatives and excellent coverage on social media.

“It is very disappointing, as so many students and parents were looking forward to discussing possible career pathways with tertiary representatives and others.”
