Big program of Anzac Day events in Golden Plains

ANYONE wanting to pay their respects to past and present servicemen and women in the Golden Plains Shire this weekend will have a wide range of options to choose from on Anzac Day.
The national day honouring those who have served in the country’s defence forces will be held on a Saturday for the first time in many years, and Golden Plains activities will begin with a dawn service at 6am at the Bannockburn War Memorial in High Street and another at the same time at Corindhap Memorial Park, followed by a gunfire breakfast there.
In Teesdale, a 7.30am service is scheduled at the war memorial in Bannockburn-Shelford Road and in Shelford, an 8.15am service at the war memorial will be followed by a breakfast at the Shelford Public Hall.
Activities in Inverleigh will include a 9.30am service at the war memorial (at the intersection of the Hamilton Highway and Railway Street) and a morning tea at the Inverleigh Public Hall at 10.10am provided by the Inverleigh Red Cross.
The Meredith Memorial Hall in Staughton Street, Meredith, will host a service at 10am followed by refreshments, while a 10am service at the Smythesdale War Memorial in Garden Street will be followed by morning tea at the gardens.
In Rokewood, a march will start at 10.45am from the local RSL and will proceed to the war memorial in Ferrars Street for a service at 11am, followed by refreshments at the RSL in Hardie Street.
And in Haddon, a service and a reading is scheduled for 11am at the memorial cenotaph in the Sago Hill Road memorial reserve, followed by refreshments at the Haddon Community Learning Centre.
Wrapping up official Anzac Day activities in Golden Plains, the Inverleigh Football Netball Club will host a service at its Railway Street headquarters before the match against Bannockburn.
