ALFREDTON Primary School student Tom was awarded a $500 voucher for his school library at InterClub’s latest Bookfest.
Held to coincide with Book Week, the event was supported by Wayne Compton from That Little Bookshop.
Attendees were asked to come dressed as their favourite book character and all books were priced at $3.
“I think every child deserves a chance to read and a lot of kids don’t get that chance,” he said.
“School libraries are an amazing way for kids to get that chance.”
Mr Compton said he is passionate about supporting the Ballarat community.
“During the COVID lockdowns the book community were really supportive of my shop and went out of their way to buy things,” he said.
“After all that happened, I really wanted to give back to the community.”
Mr Compton also donated $500 to InterClub, a drop-in centre for adults for disabilities.
“I think what Margie (Iafrate) and InterClub do is absolutely incredible,” he said. “I really want to try and help them.”
The next Bookfest will be held Friday 31 October to Sunday 2 November at 320 Pleasant Street South.
