Bright future for performing artist
A BALLARAT performing artist has been accepted into the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
Chloe Taylor, a recent Loreto College graduate, is following the path of many well-known Australian performers including Hugh Jackman, Lisa McCune, and Tim Minchin.
She is beginning a Bachelor of Music Theatre, a course only 20 students Australia-wide are accepted into.
“Growing up, WAAPA was one of the big music theatre schools in Australia, it’s been such a big goal of mine forever,” she said. “I hope to become my own artist and find my own niche.”
The audition process was extensive, with a first round of taped auditions where Taylor had to compile monologues and show contrasting pieces.
The second round, held in Melbourne, involved a dance audition, pair acting, and an interview with the audition panel.
Taylor said the work doesn’t end now she has earned her place.
“We have a range of theory and practical classes. On some days we finish at 5.30pm and start at 8.30am so it’s pretty full on.”
While Taylor said relocating to Peth was a big move, she’s also excited to see where this opportunity takes her.
WAAPA is very selective, accepting less than four per cent of auditionees and graduates of the school are often end up in musical productions all over the country.
“It’s just an insane journey, I’m so incredibly lucky,” Taylor said. “You’ve really got to love it.”
