BRMC launches industry networking

BALLARAT Regional Multicultural Council will host a series on industry networking nights to connect residents from migrant and refugee backgrounds with employers and experts.

Strategic engagement coordinator Annie Dunn said the first event will focus on the areas of aged care and hospitality and will be held at Barkly Square’s Ballarat Welcome Centre this Thursday, 19 August from 5pm to 7pm.

“The goal is to create meaningful opportunities for employers and jobseekers to engage with each other,” she said.

“It’s about both parties understanding learning so we can have better employment outcomes.

“The industries we’ve chosen to look at are in demand, or difficult for our cohorts to get into.”

An aged care professional from Australian Unity will be available, as well as Belinda Eden from Troop Events who will discuss opportunities for people interested in getting into hospitality.

A nurse working in aged care with a migrant background will also be accessible to attendees.

“We’re hoping to see a range of people come along, whether they’re curious about the industries, are actively pursuing education or employment in those areas, are qualified but just starting out in their career or are exploring options,” Ms Dunn said.

“The networking night will give people some practical tips.”

The next industry networking night will explore the industries of administration and finance.
