WHEN you’re making art, what music do you listen to?

Art space Femxle Experience Art Rebellion, or FEAR, is set to play their style of music loud and proud with a Heavy Metal and Painting Workshop at 5.30pm on Thursday, 14 July.

FEAR co-founder Holly Would will convene the event which she said was requested by one of the space’s artists.

“We let people suggest workshop ideas, and one of them, the Donut Therapist, suggested this so we decided we’re going to do it,” she said.

“I’ll set up a still life with some roses, skulls, red candles and darker objects to tie it all together.

“People will be free to paint what they want but I think they’re going to feel motivated with the music playing and the subject matter we’re offering.

Materials will be made available for all attendees, with the workshop focusing on acrylic and oil painting.

Songs can be suggested on FEAR’s website to be added to the workshop’s Spotify playlist.

Metal is Would’s choice of music while painting, and she said she’s looking forward to seeing how the two mediums blend in a group setting.

“The people coming will probably like heavy metal music, so letting the creative process happen with the connection of that whole culture will be very exciting,” she said.

“I’m wanting to help them find what they don’t know is already there in their art, whether it’s their style or their voice. It’s about bringing that out.

“Anyone’s welcome to come to this whether you’re a beginner, advanced, it doesn’t matter. There’s stuff to learn for everybody.”

Entry will be $80, and although walk-ins are accepted, you can register at bit.ly/3yjxFvZ.
