THE City of Ballarat is searching for a contractor to build the new-look Eastwood Leisure Complex.

The City earlier this week announced that an expression of interest document was open for submissions now, with a shortlist of potential builders and formal tenders to follow late this year.

The redevelopment will deliver a new multipurpose community hub on the existing leisure complex site, replacing outdated facilities.

It is being built in a partnership between the City and the Federal Government’s Growing Regions Program. Construction is expected to begin early next year, with a completion target of March 2027.

External designs were released in January and completed designs are being finalised now.

“This is a project that benefits so many people and we know that the community is so eager to see it come to life,” mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves said.

“Eastwood is one of Ballarat’s most frequently used community facilities, but it has reached the end of its useful life and its facilities are outdated and are no longer fit for purpose.

“This project will deliver something spectacular that will last for many generations to come.”

Federal Member for Ballarat Catherine King expressed similar sentiments on the redevelopment’s progress.

“Eastwood Leisure Complex is home to so many different groups, and is a true community asset,” she said.

“Finding the right builder to upgrade the facility and prepare it for the future is the next exciting step in Eastwood’s transformation.”

Existing complex buildings other than the basketball stadium will be demolished and replaced with a contemporary, accessible facility featuring flexible meeting spaces, a medium-sized conference room and a community events space.

Several meeting rooms, three multipurpose activity rooms and associated kitchen facilities also will be included.

The complex was built in the 1940s and has undergone several upgrades and expansions. Visit ballarat.vic.gov.au/city/projects/eastwood-leisure-complex-redevelopment .
