JAMES Reserve in Buninyong is set to become a very energetic place, as the home of the City of Ballarat’s next off-leash dog park.

A partnership project, it has $40,000 worth of funding from the State government, so the area’s pooches can exercise alongside the Union Jack Creek, while their owners get to know others in their neighbourhood.

The City is currently in the process of completing costing calculations and sourcing contractors.

Member for Buninyong, Michaela Settle said it’s fantastic dog owners in Buninyong will have access to a designated area where their dogs can run safely.

“Now more than ever, we realise the value of having open green space close to where we live, and I look forward to seeing this project commence as soon as possible,” she said.

The City’s most recent dog park was established a few months ago at Pennyweight Park in Ballarat East; a project worth $75,000.

A shelter and fencing was constructed, with seating scattered around the green space. Trees were also planted to generate more shade.

Seventeen new dog parks were recently announced for Victoria as part of the State’s Building Works COVID stimulus package, in addition to 16 previously announced.
