A resource booklet by the Buninyong Youth Advisory Council is offering information to young people about how they can access valuable community services.

Listing available services in the health and mental health, legal, workplace rights, life skills, driving and educational support spaces, the booklet champions the idea of accessibility for everyone.

Written by young people for young people, the Youth Council, including Eve Joyce, have summarised what’s available after thorough research.

“As a young person in Buninyong, I knew there were organisations available, but didn’t know how to find them,” she said.

“Our Youth Resources Booklet puts them in one place for easy access and advice.

“Before I nominated for the Youth Council, I didn’t know I could make a difference, but now I know I can lead, and know how to contribute to issues I care about.”

There are 10 councillors in the group from the Buninyong electorate, aged between 16 and 22.

It was created to give young people more public leadership opportunities, ownership over community issues, and educate them about the roles the State government and members of parliament, like Buninyong’s Michaela Settle, play in the region.

“I will be posting out this booklet to local neighbourhood houses and services, to help young people know about the services they can access,” Ms Settle said.

“If you are interested in your community and want to make a difference, please apply to become a member of the 2021 Buninyong Youth Advisory Council.”
