WITH about a month before the Ballarat Cycle Classic hits the road, support for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute’s major fundraiser is rolling in.

As both the deputy chair of Commerce Ballarat, and representative from major sponsor BGT Legal, Hayley Coates said it’s great to see so many businesses backing the ride.

“This event is integral to the Ballarat business community,” she said.

“It’s a very important thing to have such a great facility locally because cancer touches so many people’s lives.

“It has touched so many people within our organization so it would be silly to not support such a great initiative.”

Alongside Natures Cargo and Cyclescape, Sovereign Press is another of the major sponsors helping the event to continue.

“Seeing that we’ve been locked down for most of last year, to get behind and support cancer research here in Ballarat is fantastic,” said Brad Wooton of Sovereign Press.

“It’s not even about the competition, it’s about family involvement and friends and raising funds on the day.”

After a challenging 2020, Sarah Stapleton from the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute said the whole team are excited that the event can go ahead.

“It is only through the wonderful support of local businesses, that share our determination and mission to support cancer research here in Ballarat that it is possible,” she said.

“In these uncertain times, it is encouraging that businesses have been able to rally to support this community cause. Without this support, there would be no event.”

Registrations for the Ballarat Cycle Classic are still open and donations are welcome at ballaratcycleclassic.com.au. The event is set for Sunday, 21 February.
