THE Salvation Army Ballarat Community Church’s annual car boot and cake sale is set to return at the end of the month, with organisers calling on the community to book a space.

Proceeds will go towards families in need this Christmas and event organiser Emily Howard said some doing it tough this year.

“We’re seeing a massive influx of families coming in to sign up for our Christmas Cheer, so we know there’s going to be more coming in,” she said.

“Throughout the years we’ll normally see between 500 and 800 families coming through the door in the two-day period.

“It could be up to the thousands this year and our budget is down this year so we need to raise funds however we can to make a difference and help families.”

Families will be registering throughout the month to receive food or presents through the organisation, as well as to attend the Salvos’ two-day Christmas Cheer event, which will see their Ballarat East church setup as a giant toy room.

Running on Saturday 25 November, stalls for the car boot and cake sale event will be setup in the carpark of the Community Church located at 102 Eureka Street in Ballarat East.

About 20 spots have been booked, with a capacity for 24 more.

Ms Howard said the day will also be a fun way to connect the community.

“We’ll have lots of different stallholders coming in with things,” she said. “It’s also connecting people in who come into our cafe and op shop to people they wouldn’t normally talk to.

“We’ll have our church-run things like our white elephant stall, our plant stall, sausage sizzle, fairy floss, facepainting, a cake stall. Our cafe will be open inside and op shop onsite.”

The car boot and cake sale will run from 10am to 4pm and to book a stall for $15 contact Ms Howard on 0448 717 390 or call the church on 5337 0600.
