ORGANISED by the area’s community coordinators, the Ross Creek Smythes Creek Community Car Boot Sale is back again for another year on Sunday, 28 March.

Set for the Ross Creek Recreation Reserve, will offer pre-loved goods and home-made products alongside a barbecue, coffee van and live entertainment.

“The key reason for us to have the event has never been fundraising, it’s been about community connectedness, bringing that spread out community together,” Ross Creek community coordinator Suzanne Ryan-Evers said.

“It’s one of the biggest cohorts in the Golden Plains Shire with around 2000 residents across the two townships and the sale has been so successful in previous years that there’s been a real call for it.”

Although the focus remains on the public car boot stalls, the event will also feature for the first time a range of local artisans and small businesses as well.

“This year we’re actually extending it to also be a market so we put a call out to local businesses and hand craft artisans to get a stall together,” Ms Ryan-Evers said.

“We have around six stalls for this year and the rest, around 40, are car boots but because we have the oval as our space, we can keep taking people up until this Friday before the event.”

With physical distancing and entry and exit spaces to be set up, Ms Ryan-Evers said it’s great for the whole community to be able to continue with this event in a COVID-safe way.

“People were really isolated last year, and as the community coordinators, we couldn’t do a lot to bring people together although we did bring our a COVID focused newsletter,” she said.

“People need that connectedness and to feel like they belong to a community.

“Load up you car boot and or trailer, clean out the cupboards and the sheds, bring it down and they sell out of their car boot and people can come and score themselves a bargain.”
